British Museum

I was in class ten probably. Since then, I had been comb raiding for an excuse to peek into the most anticipated museum for me, ie. The British Museum. I had heard about its extensive collection of human art, culture and history for years and praying for an opportunity to witness this. Finally, I was showered with this boon.

If you’re wondering why on earth I am so inquisitive about this museum particularly, then let me whisper it in your ears that it sustains massive collection of eight million works. Come on,  it is the largest collection so far ! Now you must be tightening up your seatbelt to head towards this amazing place like I did.

You will certainly be amazed at the magnificence of British Museums Great Court for the first place. Previously it used to dwell surrounding the Reading room of this museum which later transferred its address to The British Library. Great Court’s quaint translucent glass roof, appeared to me unprecedented. It kept me finishing up my memory card in an instant by snatching up incessant pictures one after another. Then I transgressed my attention to the different floors of this museum which were flooded with unprecedented, inquisitive collections belonging diverse parts of the globe. You will be amazed to find this vast aena of gathered pieces extending from Egypt, Nigeria etc African countries to European regions, from Asia, Australian periphery to American ground. Unquestionably, I got stuck amidst the Indian collection more than any other region.

Especially, Ustad Amzaad Ali Khan's Sarod and eminent director Satyajit Ray's signature works made me gaze at it for quite some while before I could realize long  que had already accumulated behind me. They were throwing me some wrathful looks. Hence, it felt wise to run away from that section.

You can’t miss other significant sections as well because of their astonishing exhibitions; for example, Chinese, Egyptian, American, Greek, Roman objects. I was mostly intrigued to witness the Egyptian showcase for mummies ofcourse. During your visit in this museum, you will find out that Rosetta Stone is the mastermind which calls for most attention and viewings from the spectators. Likewise, my phone emerged out of my pocket and started to trap this stone in portrait mode, through its lenses.Though there are some interesting controversies weaved around this stone regarding its actual right. However, it appeared there are some other items as well which infuse rays of disputes.

If you ask me which department triumphs over my heart, it was the clock section for me. I have never come across such an enormous collection of antique clocks springing up around different eras, different regions of the world. If you don’t remain aware, then it might trap you for some time by its astonishing looks and features and you could get late for the next leg of your trip. Hence watch out and look for the exit sign.

Your legs must be feeling like leaving your body by now, due to immense walking throughout the day, then it’s high time to pay this museum goodbye. It was a fulfilling experience for me to visit this extraordinary museum. By the end of the day, my bag was flooded with some amazing memories. Some lucrative collectibles from the gift shop can also be spotted in there of course!
